Pick up any health or beauty magazine and there they are, the perfect people, with the perfect airbrushed complexion. We all know it’s not a real photograph, but that still doesn’t make us feel any better…
So how to get an even skin tone naturally, safely, and without it costing the earth?
Lets face it, most clinical procedures for getting an even skin tone do cost a small fortune. Not a problem if money isn’t an object, but for those of us where finances do matter, and would prefer a more natural approach, we look to nature for the answers.
Although we all want an instant answer and a quick fix, getting an even skin tone does require a little patience and dedication to the cause. There are of course things you can apply almost immediately, which we’ll talk about later in the article, but great skin will always start with a healthy diet, consisting of foods and supplements that will feed your skin.
Vitamin B12 - Essential for healthy skin. Salmon, tuna, mackerel, sardines, milk and cheese are all a good source of this vitamin.
Fresh Fruit and Vegetables – It goes without saying, should be part of any good balanced diet, but plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables will help hydrate your skin.
Vitamin E – Vitamin E is an essential antioxidant that fights the effect of harmful molecules on the skin, and needs to be in your diet. Good sources of vitamin E are wholegrain cereals, nuts (especially almonds) sunflower seeds, spinach and tomatoes.
Avocados – A rich source of vitamin E and B6, they also contain the natural substance beta-sitosterol, which helps lower blood cholesterol. Avocados also contain lutein, a natural antioxidant that helps to clear the skin. (Bring on the guacamole…)
Water – Good old H2O, 4 – 5 litres a day, minimum, will keep you and skin hydrated.
Vitamin E and vitamin B supplements are widely available, and a good idea if you don’t think your diet contains enough.
Another little known and highly underrated supplement that will be extremely beneficial for an even skin tone is Turmeric. Turmeric has been a staple of Indian and Chinese people for thousands of years. 8 times stronger than vitamin E and stronger than vitamin C. Don’t go for the cheap powdered version, find a good quality organic supplement from your local health store.
Now that you’re helping your skin from the inside, lets look at how to get an even skin tone naturally, from the outside.
